Programs & Projects
What we actually do, every week.
Four interconnected programs serving Westchester County, NY. Below is a plain-language description of who we serve, what we offer, and exactly how to access each program.

Counseling & Therapy
Who we serve
Adults, couples, families, and adolescents (12+) living, working, or attending school in Westchester County.
Sliding-scale individual, couples, and family therapy delivered by New York State licensed clinicians (LCSW, LMHC, LMFT). We are not a clinic of last resort — we are a clinic of first choice for people who do not want to navigate insurance gatekeeping for ordinary, ongoing therapy.
- Sliding-scale fees from $15 to $90 per 50-minute session, set during a 15-minute fee conversation — no documentation required beyond a self-reported household income.
- Bilingual English/Spanish therapists on staff; ASL and additional language access via partner interpreters with one week's notice.
- Evening and Saturday hours specifically reserved for working parents and shift workers.
- Adolescent track with a dedicated waiting room, parent-coaching support, and coordination with school counselors when families request it.
- Walk-in single-session consultations every Tuesday from 5–7 PM — no appointment, no fee, no commitment beyond the hour.

Youth & Teen Programs
Who we serve
Westchester County students in grades 5–12. Priority enrollment for students at Title I schools and first-generation college-bound youth.
We run year-round mentorship, skills, and enrichment programs designed alongside teachers and school counselors. The throughline is steady, named adults — every young person in our programs has at least one trained mentor who knows them by name and shows up consistently.
- After-school mentorship in Valhalla and Yonkers, Monday–Thursday, 3–6 PM, including a hot meal, homework help, and one-on-one mentor time.
- Teen DBT skills group — a 16-week curriculum on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, run on a continuous rolling cohort model.
- Saturday creative-arts studio: visual art, songwriting, photography, and zine-making led by Westchester-based teaching artists.
- College and trade-school readiness: SAT/ACT prep, FAFSA workshops, application essay coaching, and college visit field trips to Pace, Westchester Community College, SUNY Purchase, and Manhattanville.
- Summer paid internships placing 24 rising juniors and seniors with local Westchester nonprofits and small businesses each year.

Family & Community Wellness
Who we serve
Parents, caregivers, seniors, and any Westchester County resident facing food, housing, or family stress.
These are the programs that keep families afloat in the months and years when therapy alone is not enough. They are designed to be easy to use — no application, no income verification at the door, no judgment.
- Weekly food pantry every Wednesday 4–7 PM and Saturday 10 AM–1 PM, with fresh produce sourced from Feeding Westchester and culturally relevant staples for our Latino, West African, and South Asian neighbors.
- Spanish-language parenting circle (Círculo de Familias) led by Lucia Hernández, Tuesday evenings, with childcare provided.
- Caregiver support group for adults caring for aging parents, disabled spouses, or family members with chronic illness — alternating Saturday mornings.
- Senior wellness mornings: blood-pressure checks with a volunteer nurse, gentle movement, coffee, and structured social time, every Friday 9–11 AM.
- Case management and referrals to vetted Westchester partners for housing, immigration legal aid, healthcare enrollment, and benefits navigation.

Healing & Wellness Workshops
Who we serve
Open to current Sunflower clients and the wider Westchester community on a first-come, first-served basis. Most workshops are free; a few have a $5–$20 sliding fee.
Trauma-informed, body-based, and creative practices that complement clinical care. Several are co-led by clinicians and community practitioners, because we believe healing happens in many languages — not only the language of therapy.
- Trauma-informed yoga, taught by a 500-hour RYT with specific training in trauma-sensitive practice — Monday and Thursday evenings.
- Mindfulness and meditation drop-in, every Wednesday at noon, designed for shift workers and lunch breaks.
- Community garden and gardening therapy at our Valhalla raised beds, April through October.
- Expressive writing workshops: an eight-week series for adults processing grief, transition, or burnout.
- Annual community wellness day every September: free workshops, a kids' art tent, food, and live music in the parking lot of our Clinton Street office.
